Focused on empowering students for future success, we sought to educate, inspire and download a lot of skilful knowledge, while understanding the preferences and aspirations of over 220 students at St. Joseph’s Nudgee College.

Highlighting the keys to success within Industry 4.0 & 5.0 this inspired learning experience details the top 8 global technologies, alongside viable pathways, and keys to their career success.

Following which students get hands-on with a unique design sprint to activate their creative thinking – showcasing the important of design thinking & communication – while relating it back to existing pathways of the real world.

What’s the result?

The learning experience aimed to gain valuable insights into the students' interests and choices, guiding educators and the school in tailoring educational offerings to better align with the needs and aspirations of the next generation of learners. Specially at the crucial juncture of middle-senior high school.

INSIGHTS & TRENDS

A significant majority of students expressed a keen interest in acquiring skills related to the following emerging technologies:

Artificial Intelligence (AI) &Machine Learning: 54%
Robotics & Automation: 31%
Quantum Computing: 27%
Edge Computing: 25%
Blockchain: 12%
VR / AR: 13%
Cyber Security: 7%

AI & Machine Learning, Robotics & Automation and Quantum Computing were among the top choices. This indicates a growing recognition of the importance of technology in various industries and their relevance to career pathways.

Interesting a median of 6.4/10 was submitted by the students when asked if they feel ready for their future. With 10% feeling completely confident and others wanting to learn more about technologies, sustainable development, design thinking and various other related avenues – i.e. how to enter the aviation industry.

Students verbally responded the importance of conversations and gaining experiences from people within the industry through talks, internships and industry exposure programs. This hands-on experience was seen as a crucial aspect of preparing for future career opportunities.

KEYS TO SUCCESS FOR THE SCHOOL

The insights gleaned from this unique and inspiring learning experiences provide a valuable roadmap for the school and educators to tailor their programs and offerings to better cater to the aspirations of the student community. Emphasising emerging technologies (with hands-on skills), fostering entrepreneurship and innovation, and honing essential soft skills are essential components of preparing students for a dynamic and evolving job market on a global stage.

Moreover, recognising and catering to the (more than ever before) diverse career interests and the importance of real-world experiences can pave the way for a more comprehensive and student-centered approach to education. By aligning educational initiatives with the preferences and aspirations of our students, we can empower them to design their unique career pathway/s and contribute positively to society, leading to a brighter and more sustainable future for Australia.
